Spot a slab
Start with a photo of the label. That is the proven way to spot a slab here โ the app reads the photo's code first, and if no code reads, the house OCR import is one tap away on this same screen. Typing the cert is right below, just as proven.
Type the cert here โ the photo stays in view:
The printed label text itself is not OCR'd inside Slab Spotter โ label OCR runs in the house lane (Lister / intake desk), and its read is imported below.
The photo is decoded right here first, at full resolution โ a QR code or barcode in it fills the
cert below. If no code reads, you type the cert with the photo in view (no scrolling away),
or import a house OCR read โ one tap, right here. For the printed label text, run the house OCR lane
(tools/spot-read.py) and import the read below โ OCR runs in the house lane, not in the Spotter.
Typing is how most collectors verify โ about 30 seconds, and it's the check a cloned code can't fake.
๐งช Live scan โ EXPERIMENTAL. The live camera scan has failed both real dogfood rounds (v0.1.4 and v0.1.5): the camera capture โ glare, plastic, label size at desk distance โ is the limit, not the reader. It stays here to try, never as the way to count on. The photo and typing above are the proven paths.
- Fill the window with the label โ label, not slab, slab resting on the table. The code has to be big in the picture; a whole slab in frame is what failed. Phone parallel, about 6โ12 inches away.
- Tilt slowly โ slab supported on the table, moving a few degrees so the reflection slides off the code. Glare is the enemy; angle defeats it, brightness doesn't.
- Shade the light โ turn so overhead light is shaded or behind you.
- Dark, matte background โ rest the slab on a dark, clean surface; place it, don't drag it.
Torch is a dark-room tool. On a slab it usually whites out the label โ tilt or shade first. It starts OFF.
